HAIDA COMPANY EXAMINES BIOLOGICAL HOTSPOTS USING STATE OF THE ART OCEAN BUOYS

With support from the National Oceanographic Administration (NOAA), 20 Argos smart buoys, programmed with advanced oceanographic sensors, were deployed in uncharted seas in the Pacific Northeast.

A new biotechnology company, the Haida Salmon Restoration Corporation is making huge advances in ocean science by conducting an in-depth oceanographic study in previously unexplored waters.  The company, founded by the village of Old Masset, embarked on a three month long research voyage this summer to discover what lies beneath the High Seas of Haida Gwaii.

VILLAGE OF OLD MASSET INVESTS MILLIONS IN PLANKTON RESEARCH USING STATE OF THE ART TOOLS

With constant declines in salmon stocks, the Old Massett Haida look to the salmon food supply in the great open-ocean in search of solutions

The people of Old Masset Village on Haida Gwaii are taking a plunge into ocean science to hopefully solve the problem of decades of salmon declines. Working to build a vast knowledge-base of oceanographic research, the Haida Salmon Restoration Corporation and Old Massett Village Council aim to become stewards of the Haida Ocean in the hopes of replenishing and restoring the ocean food supply. There is a good chance that it will also be able to provide a means to restore regional and global fisheries.  http://www.hsrc1.com/current-events/press-releases/plankton-research-press-release/
